Age for Baptizing

Since there is no specific age in which a child should be baptized, the parents usually select the timing of the baptism services depending on the role they want religion to play in the child’s life. Although not real common, there are occasions when several siblings are baptized at the same time.

There are denominations that believe that their children belong to God and baptize them when they are infants. Although the infants do not know about this at the time, their parents and the church do. In time, the children will see other babies being baptized and be told that this is what happened to them.

Churches place a tremendous amount of importance on baptism. In the early days, in the Roman Catholic Church, when a child is in danger, the child must be baptized immediately, in the house of the parents if the child is too young or weak to take to the church. Otherwise, the child will be taken to the consecrated edifice as soon as his health would permit.
