“Baptize" and "baptism" means, "to immerse", or "to wash." Baptism welcomes the individual into the church. In the days of the Christian Scriptures immersing the person in water, typically in a river, lake or stream performed it. Baptism involves the pouring of water over the head of the person. Some  parents believe this instills basic principles and values in their child based on religious teachings.

Christening is one of two ordinances of the New Testament called sacraments. Christening is administered in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Christening "in the name of" means "into union with" or "into the discipleship of." Christening means christening into subjection and devotion to the one living and true God.
