Customarily, baby showers are held a month or two before the baby is born. Baby showers should not be held too close to the Mommy-to-Be's due date in case she delivers early, and It is also helpful to have the baby shower far enough away so the Mommy-to-Be has time to return duplicate or unneeded items. She should also have sufficient time to purchase the items she did not receive at the baby showers that might not have been on her baby shower registry. The extra time before the birth also helps the Mommy and Daddy-to-Be set up all the great baby shower gifts they received.
Some couples prefer a "Welcome Home Baby Shower" which is held a few weeks AFTER the baby arrives, especially if guests want to bring gifts specifically for the new baby boy or girl. The welcome home baby shower is particularly suitable for out-of-town relatives and guests who would love to attend the baby shower but cannot arrange two trips. If you have a Welcoming Baby Shower, be sure to include this on the unique and printed baby shower invitations.
It is usually better to host the baby shower on a Saturday or Sunday. Contact some of the significant guests, especially out of town family or friends, to make sure they are available on dates you have in mind. You will want to be mindful that Friday night and Saturday baby shower parties are usually more expensive than Sundays if you are having the baby shower at a location other than a home.
